Vintage Buddhist Prayer Wheel
According to tradition, Buddhist prayer wheels serve a dual purpose: to purify bad karma and to accumulate wisdom and good karma and bring the devotee closer to achieving enlightenment. This particular prayer wheel hails from Himachal Pradesh, on the border with Tibet, and is made from copper, brass, bone and wood. Held within the wheel's compartment is a rolled parchment on which is printed a prayer, and each revolution of the wheel is the equivalent of speaking that prayer aloud. At 12.5 inches long, this prayer wheel is in fine, vintage condition.
